What is BWRT?
BWRT® (BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®) is a modern type of talking therapy based on the latest understanding of how the brain works. It helps people change unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and reacting — quickly and gently. Unlike many traditional therapies, BWRT doesn’t require you to talk in detail about difficult memories or experiences. Instead, it works by helping the brain “re-set” old automatic responses and replace them with calm, confident ones.

How Does It Work?
When something stressful or upsetting happens, our brain reacts in a split second — often before we even realise it. BWRT steps in right at that early point, before the emotional reaction fully takes hold. Using a guided process, the therapist helps the child or young person imagine the situation while focusing on how they would prefer to feel or respond. This helps the brain create a new, healthier pathway — so future reactions become calmer and more in control.
Why We Use BWRT at Child Therapy NI
At Child Therapy NI, we use BWRT because it is gentle, effective, and empowering for children and young people. It can bring lasting change without the need to revisit painful memories, making it especially helpful for those who find it hard to express or talk about their feelings. BWRT can help with worries, fears, anxiety, low confidence, grief, and other emotional challenges. Many clients notice a real difference in just a few sessions.
A Safe and Supportive Process
Every BWRT session is age-appropriate and paced carefully to make sure each child feels safe and supported. Our therapists are fully trained and certified in BWRT, ensuring the highest standards of care. At Child Therapy NI, we believe in helping young people build resilience and confidence — and BWRT is one of the many tools we use to make that possible.
